day sleep

by thespian @ 2008-04-07 - 13:02:00

DIURNATION
- this strange word means being sleepy during the day.

it affects me most at around 3pm when my brain seems to think i have eaten a huge lunch with a big glass of red wine and therefore i should get my head down for an hour.

so, as i am off work today, can you guess where i'll be at 3?

I adore sleep in the day...I love it...and I find it so easy, whereas at night time I don't!

that's true for me, too - time to move to continental europe where the afternoon nap still survives?

Never sleep in the day normally, but if I do I have the most vivid of dreams then...apparently at around three your hormone levels are at their lowest point and that's why you feel tired...they build up again after you rest and then you have energy for the evening...we're all hormonal male or female...what a bore...governed by chemicals over which we have little or no control...bad engineering I call that...should be a switch we can press to boost our energy levels when they get low...HLOL..big hugs....Have a good power nap...

well i can feel my hormone surging now!

hmmm...don't know what to say to that...HLOL...big hugs...

Research shows that the optimum duration for a power nap is 15 minutes, if you want to be alert on waking.

Am I right in thinking the human race is the only diurnal animal which doesn't take a nap during the day?

takes me more than 15 minutes to nod off, and another 15 at least to wake up again.

it's probably just us who've given it a stupid name and written lots of books and research about it!

Well, I was sleepy at 15:00, though it was more to do with being on my 4th hour of phone calls...

Would prefer what your brain had in mind!

hope my day off didn't make your work seem harder!

hmmm, i can drop off to sleep at the twinkle of an eyelid both at day and night. All I need is my big cosy duvet - doesn't matter if its the garden (in warm weather) the sitting room floor or the bed! I have learnt to wake up after 30 minutes if needs be.

Every day off i have I'll be asleep some time mid afternoon. Only wish i could nod off at my desk for an hour. Although not sure how colleagues would cope with emanations from my rear whilst I slept!

it's really luxurious, isn't it, to nod off in the afternoon - like a cat.
not sure i want to know about your emanations, though i expect they are very discreet!

xx

I went back to bed for an hour today after falling asleep during the news....hubby come home and caught me snoring while sitting on the sofa!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the "nap" ;)

Nothing better than a good old power nap to get you through the rest of the day.

definitely!
had to work today - and keep awake ALL the time!
how unfair is that?
