india

by thespian @ 2008-04-06 - 12:22:13

i'm building up to go there one day.
i went to sri lanka once and loved it there - a tiny island, the teardrop on the end of india.

i found out that the average indian diet today has the same number of calories as the english diet did in 1850.
this was known as the pre-mcdonald period of english history.
i shudder to think how many calories we shovel down now.

the other thing i discovered was that indian people account for 38 per cent of doctors in America, 36 per cent of scientists at NASA, and 34 per cent of employees at Microsoft.

slim, and clever.

india here i come.

where would you choose if you could only choose one?

I'm gonna cheat ;)
The USA!
One country but so many different places to explore. And all the different types of Mcdonalds meals to try!

(kidding bout the McD's)

but yes, those great lakes, the grand canyon, louisiana, vegas (only for a day) New York, the list is endless.

I'm hoping money and time are no object? And I'd have learnt to drive too!

It sounds a wonderful country but I imagine there's a lot of poverty. It explains a lot when people here now eat because they want to, not because they need to.

the poverty might be hard to take at times, but then i feel like that when i walk round a city centre in the UK sometimes.

I would love to go to Sri Lanka! Lucky thing. You rarely see obease Indians....!! Isn't the average women meant to have 2000 calories per day, and men should have 2500 calories (So the back of Walkers crisp packets say!)? I cant (nor would I want to!) get near that figure! x

i can easily exceed it, but i never seem to put weight on.
the main thing i remember about sri lanka is how beautiful the people were. and the light.

xx

I'm ashamed to say, if I go abroad now, I need to travel in relative luxury...I'm too old to rough it anymore so it would take me absolutely years to save up to go anywhere in the world nowadays as first class travel costs the earth, but would really love to see the world...hope you make it...big hugs, Kev....XX

maybe you'll have to drive there, instead, in your luxury three wheeler reliant robin!

xx

HLOL..my what!! I haven't driven for two decades or more...no my idea of luxury would be to be driven everywhere...that would be bliss....wouldn't even mind traffic jams if I was being driven...if somebody said to me what would you like most in the world it would be to have a permanent chauffeur on hand and an environmentally friendly car and to see the world in it...:) It's so tiring traveling by public transport and I want to get from A to B before I peg out...HLOL...big hugs...XX

yes, i love the idea of selling the house and buying a huge motorhome (solar powered, of course!)

Would be wonderful...but I don't even need a motorhome...just a car with a chauffeur would do me...he and I could fly around the world and he could hire a car and drive me everywhere in the new country so I wouldn't have to find my way anywhere...I get lost very easily having little or no sense of direction HLOL...just heaven...big hugs...

judging by the amount of indians in the uk and america not many indians want to be in india.

and lucky for us that they don't, by the sound of it.

I'm an honorary Indian you know....well the man at my takeaway said I am! I love all things Indian and can't wait to go there. I have a trip to Goa planned in my head first off and then wherever I fancy after that.

One day......

India is a huge and varied place.
My Father's from Bombay (Now Mombai).
I used to go over for the Summer every four years.
If you're looking for the 'spiritual', avoid the cities;
Kolkata (Calcutta),Mumbai Bombay and Deli should be avoided.
Unless you like to see places more dirty and crowded than London.
Poverty is also very apparent and heartbreaking.
See Agra for the Forts, palaces and especially the Taj Mahal.
Aside from that, stick to the coast.
Goa is pretty much the 'garden state' of India, but there are plenty of unspoiled places if you're prepared to look.

thanks for that, kirky.
i do want to see all sides of india.
not so much a holiday as a voyage and an experience.
